1. Zipper closures
We all know what a zipper does. It opens from left to right or vice versa. And it is probably the most common handbag lock type. You’ll also see zippers on wallets, clutches, backpacks, etc.

They mostly come in metal, but you can also see plastic ones, too.
What you want for your handbag is a smooth zipper. Bonus if you can open and close it with one hand!
2. Magnetic closures
Magnetic snap closures are another simple handbag lock type. With the power of magnetism, the two parts will naturally want to come together, closing your handbag.

Magnetics come into different strengths. So, the stronger it is, the better security it provides to keep your items safe.
Depending on the bag, some magnetic closure will be hidden while others are shown through the hardware.
The best thing is that it allows really quick access to what’s inside your bag.
3. Snap Closure
Snap handbag lock closures are very similar to magnetic closures. However, instead of closing naturally, you have pressed the snap closures together with some pressure.

With snap closures, you can usually get a satisfying opening and closing snap.
4. Turn Locks (twist locks)
As the name suggests, this handbag lock type has a rotating mechanism that secures a flap or belt. To open your handbag, you have to turn or twist a knob.

It comes in many different designs and styles. With a turn lock, you feel safer with your items inside your bag.
Many luxury handbag brands will feature their logo or a specific branding as the twist feature.
5. Drawstring closure
While not a lock, a drawstring is another common way to open and close your handbag.

It is a type of cord that is pulled to close your bag. It’s usually seen in backpacks, but bucket style handbags will have a drawstring closure.
6. Kiss-Lock/Clasp/Frame Closures
Also called a frame closure or a clasp, these types of handbag locks are seen in more structured handbags, wallets, and clutches.

These tend to have a metal frame with two rounded knobs or beads on opposite sides. You press these knobs together to close, and you twist the knob apart to open it. Just before careful if you have nails.
These tend to have a very satisfying snap when they close.
7. Tuck Lock (push lock)

It’s most seen on backpacks’ messenger bags, and satchels, and it gives a more classic, rugged aesthetic.
Though, it can be slower to open than the other closures.
9. S-lock
